At this Uptown New Orleans brick home, the front garden already had the right ingredients: mature trees, a gracious entry, and architecture with enough character to lead the way. What it needed was a clearer sense of order, one that made the walk, planting beds, and open space feel connected to the home rather than added in pieces over time.

We designed and installed a front garden with a stronger framework. Flagstone pavers create a more intentional approach to the entry, while crushed brownstone and brick edging extend that material language through the garden. The brick edges echo the home’s steps and foundation, giving the paths and planting beds definition without making the space feel rigid.

Two clean lawn panels keep the garden open beneath the tree canopy. Around them, sweet olives and yaupon holly establish evergreen structure and privacy. Encore azaleas, ligularia, crinum lilies, monkey grass, dwarf mondo grass, and fig ivy bring softer texture and seasonal interest close to the walk and foundation.

The finished Nashville Avenue Garden feels tailored to the house: formal enough for its brick façade, but softened by shade, layered planting, and a path that makes arriving home feel more considered.
